I remember saying a while back something like: “ It won’t take much. Just a small incident, totally insignificant in itself. But just enough to push people over the edge”. It was in a post or a comment, doesn’t really matter. I wonder if this AIG crap is such a incident? Not the money part, I’m not getting into that. I mean the employees having armed escorts too and from work. Armed guards around the building. People trying to find their homes. They can’t wear any identifying logos. Sounds like some folks are pissed. I just hope they can tell the difference between a CEO and a Janitor at 1000 yards through a scope. Besides, I think they’re mad at the wrong people. Get pissed at the lawmakers that passed the insane laws that made this shit legal. But first try to change the laws. If that doesn’t work. Well, then explore other options…
The video thingy really has nothing to do with this. It’s just the result of a brain-fart that expresses my distrust of our current leaders. Might even get me on some “official” watch list. Hell, I could use the excitement.

The wrong people always get the short end of the stick. The AIG people that got the bonuses probably actually earned them. I know how that all works because I'm in the back office of a annuities company. I agree they shouldn't have used the bailout money to pay them said bonuses but is it really those peoples fault that AIG did that? It's like my husbund's company having to cancel the big trip that he earned and won. He earned it, he works very hard like everyone else out there does. His company wasn't even using bailout money to fund the trip but they still cancelled it. The Regular Joes like you and me are not the problem here. I think you said it well in your post.

There are some AIG execs that are giving the money back, and in my opinion, they are doing the right thing. BUT, I have a problem paying someone more money, who screwed things up in the first place. Those at AIG know who they are! Your right, it's not the janitors and clerks that created this mess, but the big dogs, who got a larger percent of the Bonus money.
Congress passed this KNOWING what they were doing, and now they are trying to make it look like AIG pulled something over on them. BULLSH*T! I want to know how much money these Congress A-holes got for pushing this through for them.

Just what is a bonus. According to my dictionary is says:
bonus- a grant of money as a gratuity to workers; a special earned payment based eg. on production; an extra dividend or gift of stock or shares from a company to its shareholders; a distribution of profits to certain insurance policy holders; ANYTHING WELCOME THAT ONE RECEIVES OVER AND ABOVE WHAT IS EXPECTED OR USUAL.
With that said, if my boss came to me and said, everyone has earned a bonus for last year, but with the business doing so bad now, we are going to have to cut pay by 5%. I would rather bypass receiving that bonus if it meant our pay could stay the same. Maybe I'm the stupid one, but I can do better with MY budget if it stays consistent.

I believe not only is Congress at fault for handing out the bailout money with no stipulations, but the jackholes over at AIG are at fault, too. You know the ones that really screwed up are the ones who got the biggest bonuses, and they're also the ones who ARE NOT giving them back!

The AIG pay raises was no accident. Whoever wrote the bailout knew full well what they were doing. If anyone did some digging, I'd wager they'd find that the author of the bailout was on the receiving end of a financial perk of their own. As "deepthroat" told the reporter investigating Watergate, just follow the money. The boys in Washington aren't as smart as everyone thinks they are.
In a course of a couple days, we've seen one of the authors say he knew nothing about it and then say he knew about it and it couldn't be prevented due to the liability issues.

The media and the government press conferences have done a great job demonizing the AIG employees though. Making them look irresponsible and getting the public pissed at the execs. The public will be screaming for the government's "help" and "protection" pretty soon. And this is EXACTLY what the government wants.

I've run for political office a few times and that's how I always campaigned. I told like it was and was straight to the point. It did gain me the reputation in town as someone who could get shit done whithout a lot of b.s. It doesn't get you elected though which is why you don't see it very often.
